First Responder Counseling

As a former wildland fire dispatcher and training specialist, I understand the stress and strain first responders face on a daily basis. First responders in one day may face more traumatic situations, than the average person will in a lifetime. First responders may often feel isolated and misunderstood by those closest to them, because their loved ones cannot relate. First responders may also feel reluctant to share with loved ones, wanting to protect them from negative topics and/or because they are sworn to maintain patient/client confidentiality.

I have specialized training in first responder counseling which helps me to support the unique culture of first responder workers (peace officers, firefighters, emergency room practitioners, ambulance paramedics/EMT, dispatchers). I recognize how important it is to build trust with first responder clients and to create a safe, supportive space where even the worst of their experiences can be shared without judgment or conditions attached (e.g. being asked to not share stories which may “trigger” the counselor, or peace officers being asked to remove their firearms). I collaborate with first responder clients to create treatment plans which match their distinctive needs and work to break down barriers that may prevent first responders from prioritizing their mental health.

First Responder Counseling Fees: $125.00 for a 50-minute session. Some sliding-scale openings may be available.

(FSA accepted, if in the form of a Visa/Mastercard debit card. Unfortunately, at this time, I do not accept insurance. A super-bill can be provided upon request, if a client wishes to seek reimbursement from their insurance. It is the responsibility of the client to check with their insurance provider if they reimburse.)
